Guido Stagnaro. Alice nel paese delle meraviglie.

Alice goes through the screen to come back into a book. At the hand of the director Guido Stagnaro, in fact, in the mid-seventies, Carroll's story ends up on Italian TV. At the same time, from this beautiful drama titled Nel mondo di Alice was taken an illustrated book with photographs from some scenes. These pictures have nothing to envy to the best illustrations. The sets, beautiful costumes, makeup and facial expression of the actors create suggestive pictures which accompany the adventure of our heroine from Oxford.

Stagnaro did not complete his studies at Polytechnic to pursue his passion: the theatre. About the book

With the title Alice nel paese delle Meraviglie in the mid-seventies  the publisher Edipem, from Novara, published a reduction of the two classics of Lewis Carroll: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-glass and what Alice found there. The translation and the reduction were by  Natalina Angeli, an author of which we don't have biographical or bibliographical informations. The text is accompanied by photos from the drama Nel Mondo di Alice, directed by Guido Stagnaro and broadcast by RAI in 1974. This drama was one of the first colour drama on air in Italy. In the book, in addition to the photographs there are some blue and white illustrations; blue background and white drawing and vice versa by an unknown illustrator. In the faces of Carroll's characters we can recognize some great Italian actors; Milena Vukotic as Alice, Franca Valeri as the Ugly Duchess, Riky Gianko and Bruno Lauzi as Tweedledee e Tweedeldum. The sets and the costumes are by Emanuele Luzzati. Although Milena Vukotic at the time of the drama was over the age of thirty, her excellent interpretation deceives the viewer into believing to be in front of a little girl.
